I just occured to me, after opening my inbox tonight, the first time I’d opened it in 2 days, that there are some people who had read about Emery on this website and still did not know what we found out after going back to the hospital on Thursday. Sorry guys! I didn’t mean to leave ya’ll hangin’.
I took him for more blood work, and can I just add right here that he was SUCH A CHAMP! The nurse stuck that butterfly needle in his teeny tiny arm vein and he hardly flinched. He did give out a nervous sort of giggle though. The nurse and I laughed with him and I think it made him feel better. Then I sang “Winnie the Pooh” while we waited for all the tubes to be filled. He chimed in singing, “Eee, Eee, Ooh”.
Then we played the waiting game again that afternoon and I was so relieved when finally, around 5:30, I saw Dr Hutchins number appear on my caller id. She asked, “How are you?” I said, “That depends. What do you have to tell me?”
She proceeded to tell me the good news that Emery’s platelet count was on the rise. It was at 83, up from 53, and although normal would be anything over 150, it was a very good sign that it had come up that much in only 2 days. So she is convinced that although it is not too common, some virus that he caught caused his platelets to drop. And the low platelets is what caused the petechiae.
I called Jeremy right away. Obviously we were incredibly relieved and sighed a “Thank you, Lord” under our breath. That night we celebrated by going out and buying a Christmas tree. Yesterday I dug out the ornaments and other decorations, and we had a tree trimming party last night. Today was Savannah’s 4th birthday party.
This week was a whirlwind and it’s looking to continue on for the next 2 weeks. But I surely didn’t mean to NOT update everyone on his condition. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts for our family. Praise God we will not have to endure more testing and hospital visits anytime soon!
