So last night my parents came over to have dinner with us and play with the kids for a little while. At one point they had Emery and Savannah in the basement while I was getting the food prepared. From the kitchen I could hear my mom fussing at one of them.
I went downstairs to find out what was going on and found out that Savannah was the culprit. I asked her to come back upstairs and spend some time in the kitchen with me. She began her apology immediately, “I’m sorry, Mommy, I’m sorry!!!”
“I’m sure you are, but come up to the kitchen with me anyways and you can help me get dinner ready,” was my reply.
The crying had stopped until I asked her to empty the dishwasher while I finished warming up the food. You would have thought I asked her peel a 50 lb bag of potatoes! “I can’t do that! It’s too hard! No, Mommy, ppplllleeeaaasssseeee!”
She was still crying, and had not touched a single dish, when dinner was ready and my parents, along with Emery, came up to eat. I asked everyone to leave the kitchen until she had put all the dishes away and that REALLY got her fired up!
As we sat in the living room talking, we heard this chant coming from the other room, “No more hard work! No more hard work!”
Next thing I know she’ll be standing in front of our house with a placard, petitioning Child Labor laws and Children’s Rights within the home!
