Today begins the “May Day Weightloss Challenge” over at Tales from the Scales. Every Tuesday from now until September 18th will be a day to weigh in and be accountable for how I’ve treated my body in the past week. For this first post, challengers were asked to tell a little bit about their weight history and some goals they would like to achieve.
There is not much to tell about my weight history. I’ve never been hugely overweight, but like most women (and girls) I feel the pressure to be skinny and so I’m usually looking to lose a few pounds. The heaviest I’ve ever been was when I met my husband. That was during my party years (alcohol has a lot of calories!). I tried to lose the extra pounds by eating low fat or fat free. That was the worst thing I’ve ever done!!! I did not pay attention to the packaging to see that those types of products have more calories in them than the original and I would eat more of it, thinking that was okay because it was “fat free”. I ended up gaining instead of loosing.
Before I got pregnant with my first baby I was the leanest I’ve ever been. I had been going to the gym and loved it! My actual weight (as in the number itself) was not very low, but I had gained a bunch of muscle weight. I was trim and wearing small sizes, so the number didn’t matter. I felt great!
That was 5 years (and 2 kids) ago.
Here are my tools for the next 18 weeks:
A new, cute journal and the 32 oz. mega cup from QT.
Goals for the cup: drink 2 per day full of water.
Goals for the food journal:
1. Consistently write down what I am eating and drinking, focusing on better food choices and smaller quantities
2. Remember to take my vitamins
3. Keep up with weekly excercise, working toward a goal of 3 times per week for minimum of 30 minutes
Okay, there you have it. Seems reasonable, yes? Eighteen weeks is a long time. Hopefully by checking in weekly, I will be able to keep on track. Oh, and I was asked to give a weight loss goal too. I am going to say 8 pounds. Although for me, I don’t mind having the higher number as long as my clothes feel a little loose. A better way for me to tell if I succeeded when September 18th rolls around is by answering this one question: “Why are you wearing a thong?” Is it because my pants are snug and wearing panties will show off the forbidden panty line? Or is it because I feel sexy??? I am hoping for the latter of the two!
