Anybody else been outside enjoying this wonderful fall weather besides me? If I had a laptop you might see more blogging out of me this time of year, but since I don’t, and I don’t want to sit in the house and see these gorgeous days go to waste…well, I might disappear from time to time.
We had quite a busy weekend starting on Thursday night. The kids’ had gotten some “buy one get one free” coupons for a local fair so we decided to take them on a few rides after dinner. Neither of them had ever been to a fair and I seriously can’t remember the last one I’ve been to. I’m sure it was back in high school though, so I was relatively excited about going. Turned out to just be a “parking lot” event. No barn animals or craft booths. No blue ribbon pies or homemade apple butter. Those are the fairs I remember growing up in Illinois. Jeremy assured me they do have those fairs here in Georgia too. You know, fairs where the employees take baths, have most of their teeth and do something other than grunt when your 4 year old smiles and says “hello sir” as she shows them her little arm band allowing her access on the ride. Jeremy renamed it the “Crack Head Fair”.
Friday I gave the kids an early nap and we headed in to Jeremy’s office around 3:00. He had planned to surprise our employees with an ice cream social and let them leave a little early. I brought all the fixin’s for homemade ice cream and he had borrowed a couple of freezers. When the ice cream was finished we made sundaes with chocolate syrup, caramel, candy toppings, and cherries. The kids loved it, of course, and thought that was the best “dinner” they ever had!
Friday night the kiddos went to my parents house to spend the night and I stayed up until 1:30 in the morning getting a bunch of clothes ready to sell at a consignment sale next weekend. Then we got up early to head into Athens for another Georgia game. We are quite the dedicated fans this year, huh? Some friends we know from church were tailgating and invited us to join them. It was tons of fun and YAY, Georgia won!!!
Usually Sunday’s are our lazy days but yesterday was just the opposite. After church I got Emery down for a nap and threw all the consignment stuff in the back of my truck. Savannah went with me to drop it off and there was a nice long line. When it was our turn to drop off my “gently used clothing” I quickly realized I was assigned the clothes Nazi to go through my items.
She was rejecting stuff that I myself would have purchased at a sale. And yes, while I did take it a little personally that she didn’t like my things, it also bothered me that she would be dismissing these things that others would be bringing in. I usually don’t shop consignment sales expecting to buy my kids brand new top of line clothes (although I have found a few great deals there). I mainly want to find decent looking, decently priced play clothes. And I think that Savannah’s pink Georgia girl football jersey at a mere $2.00 would have made somebody’s Daddy proud and he wouldn’t have noticed the minuscule snag at the bottom that I had to step outside in the direct sunlight to even notice! (I’m only a tiny bit bitter.)
Moving on…the day would not have been complete without Savannah embarrasing me in the grocery store. We stopped in quickly to buy a gallon of tea to take to a party that we were now late for since I had to wait in line for the Nazi lady. We were walking through the store when we passed a tall, lanky guy with long stringy hair in desperate need of a shower. I was thinking to myself that if he needed a job he certainly met all the criteria to work at the Crack Head Fair down the street, when all of a sudden Savannah starts laughing and says loudly, “Mommy, that silly man has long hair like a girl!” Followed by another burst of laughter.
Nice one. Of course he was out of ear shot as I explained to her that “some boys like to wear their hair long, just like some girls like to wear their hair short”. And he was just creepy enough to have me looking over my shoulder as we got back in the car to high tail it back home and pick up the guys before heading to the party.
So that get’s me to today and after a weekend like that I am glad I didn’t have to get up this morning to take anyone to school. The kids are off all week for fall break. Whoopee!!!! So here’s what I’ve got cookin’:
Tonight: Scrambled cheese eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, and biscuits
Tuesday: Hamburgers, tator tots, and strawberry applesauce
Wednesday: leftovers before church
Thursday: Chicken and Dumplings and Peach Crisp
Friday: I am hosting crop, so everybody fend for yourself!
Saturday: Stew and Blueberry Salad
Sunday: Sloppy Joes with chips
Have a great week, Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!
