Last week when I wrote this about a day in my life, I had a couple of people ask me about Savannah’s “sleep ticket”.
Basically, it’s some scrapbook supplies put together to look like an oversized pink ticket and on it is written: “Good for one night each week, Savannah may sleep with Mommy & Daddy”.
The sleep ticket came about after many months this past spring when Jeremy’s snoring was keeping me up at night. I got tired of poking him all night long and finally just resigned to the guest room to get a good nights rest.
Savannah gets in the habit every now and then of waking up and coming into our room in the middle of the night. She is still half asleep and I can simply give her a hug and send her back up to her room to finish sleeping. But when I started sleeping in the guest room, she’d come down and Jeremy wouldn’t even hear her get into bed with him.
She very quickly created a new habit of sleeping in our bed!
By summer, he had quit snoring and we were sharing a bed once again. But Savannah did not like being sent back to her room anymore. And to be honest, we kinda liked snuggling up with her from time to time. But not every night. And it wasn’t fair to her to come downstairs to our room not knowing if this would be a night she could crawl under our covers or not.
So, the sleep ticket was born and it has worked like a charm! I give her the ticket every Monday and she can use it any day during the week. That will be her night to go to sleep in our bed and stay there all night long. I also have “sleep ticket” as a reward for her in the Good Choice Jar.
