I just got done wrapping the Advent books. The kids and I took all the regular reading books out of the basket by the fireplace and put the wrapped ones in. Advent begins tonight so they are both picking out which book they want to open first.
We started this tradition last year and it was so much fun. I couldn’t wait to do it again! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, let me sum it up like this: Basically, I take a bunch of Christmas books (we have exactly 30 this year) and gift wrap them. Each night during Advent the kids get to select a couple of books to read, either wrapped or already unwrapped. On Sundays we light an Advent candle to go along with the reading and talk about what it means. This is also a great time to bring out cups of hot cocoa and Christmas cookies!!!
So what do you do in preparation of Christmas? Ya know, besides putting up a tree, decorating the house, shopping, gift wrapping, sending cards, baking, traveling, going to parties, etc. Where do you find the calm in it all?

What a great idea! We are going to start reading Jotham’s Journey tonight. We have never officially done advent before. This is our first year.
That’s a great idea. We are in the middle of Jotham’s Journey and no Christmas season is complete until we read The Best Christmas Pagent Ever.

I have never heard of doing that before!! That is a WONDERFUL idea! Avery already loves to read books before bedtime, so that would be a great tradition for us. We are still “learning” and working on our family traditions. We know that Santa is going to bring 3 gifts (like last year) to tie into the Christmas story, but one of my favorite things to do with him is get out his Little People nativity and play with it. I put it up last year so it would be “new” this year and he loves playing with it every morning! Thank you for sharing! I love hearing new ideas!
