In school, we’ve been learning about space. The sun, stars, moon, names of the planets, etc. Since the time changed, it’s been darker earlier, and so I’ve taken them outside a couple of times to do some star gazing.
One night, it went something like this:
M: “Okay Guys. Look up there. Do you see that really bright shiny star? That’s actually a planet. That is Venus. You can tell by how bright it is, and also, it’s not twinkling.”
S: “I see it! And look over there, Mom. It’s a red star. That must be Mars.”
E (pointing excitedly to the sky): “Oh yeah? Well look at that! I can see Earth!”

Tucking Emery in one night:
E: “Mom? How old do you have to be to get married?”
M: “Well, you have to be an adult, but people get married at different ages. Some people get married at 18 and others wait until they are in their twenties or thirties.”
E: “I am going to get married when I’m 18. And I’m going to marry YOU, Mommy!”
(long pause while I hug him, saying “awwwwww…that’s so sweet Emery!”)
Then, he says, “Well, wait a minute. How OLD will you be when I’m 18?”
