Yesterday on Facebook I posed a question about how to deal with a friend of my kids’ whom I dislike but the child’s mom is continually asking for us to get together and play. And I called the kid a brat.
Well today was my payback. After lunch my kiddos went outside to play and I did some things around the house. When I went outside to get them I found out that Emery had taken one of Jeremy’s hammers from the garage and proceeded to beat on the neighborhood playground set that sits next to our house. Oh, and he was using the “toothy” side, so he tore the wood up pretty good.
I was shocked to say the least! My kid had become the brat?!?!?! So I brought him inside then Jeremy and I decided his fate. A spanking and no outside play for a week. Followed by apologizing to the neighbors in the letter above that we placed inside peoples mailboxes.
I thought he would be humbled about the letter, but as we walked the subdivision and talked about the situation he seemed pretty upbeat. When I came right out and asked him about how he felt telling people what he did he said, “Yeah, well at least I don’t have to do it face to face cuz that would be EMBARRASSING!!!”
I’m pretty sure I was the only one feeling humiliated, but that wasn’t until we closed a mailbox with a nest of wasps inside and 3 of them chased me down the street while I screamed “Run Emery!!!” and then one stung me. Nice. No more bratty talk for me. Unless I’m talking about one of my own anyways!
