Well, it’s finally here!!! The 5k event that I wrote about on July 24th. Eight weeks of training…almost. Once school got back in session, my lovely schedule got all messed up, but I did the best I could. The training was not as hard as I thought it would be. I rather enjoyed it and really pushed myself to go farther and run faster as the weeks progressed. I was very pleased with my perseverance, which is not like me at all!
Not that I’m lazy, by any means. I just get completely satisfied with where I’m at and don’t try to acheive much more. But on the treadmill, I really persevered. Really!!!
So you might be surprised to find out that I’m not competing in the event after all. But I have a good reason. Really!!! Don’t judge me, just hear me out.
About a month ago, my good friend Amy’s husband sent me an email regarding a birthday surprise he was planning for her. As I’m reading the message I am thinking he must need my help to babysit thier children or something. Then I get to the bottom of the email, after reading all about sending her to a spa at Lake Oconee for the weekend, and it says “would you like to go with her? It won’t cost you anything.”
I believe my exact words were, “umm, haaa, whaaaa, hmmmm?”
I had to read it 2 or 3 times just to be sure. But that’s what he said. And when I checked my calendar for the weekend he wanted to send us, I realized it was the same weekend as my very first 5K run.
So I had to weigh my options. On the one hand, I had spa treatments, sleeping in, and cocktails with tiny umbrellas. On the other I had getting up at the crack of dawn, sweating, and trying to ward off a side ache. It was a no brainer…Really!!!
Ever since my wonderful husband agreed that I should go, have a great time, and not worry about him and the kids, I have been on cloud nine! It’s going to be so fun for us girls. In between the massages, room service, and naps, I believe we are even planning to work on our scrapbooks. It’s heavenly…just heavenly!
