Tomorrow Savannah has her 5 year old check up. It’s been scheduled for quite some time but I haven’t mentioned it to her because I knew it would upset her. You see, back in July, when Emery had his 2 year old check up, he got 4 shots in the leg. Obviously, he screamed and cried. Savannah was there. She cried too.
In the car on the way home that day she asked me why he got all those shots. I explained about vaccinations and the reasons we feel it’s a good idea to have them. She asked about her next check up. I told her it wouldn’t be until she was 5 and that was months away. She cried all the way home.
This morning the pediatrician’s office called to confirm her appointment. The kids were playing in the next room so I quietly asked the receptionist if Savannah would be getting any s-h-o-t-s at the appointment, spelling it out instead of saying the actual word. She answered and I hung up.
Next thing I know, Savannah is standing beside me, clutching her favorite little lamb, tears in her eyes, wimpering “I don’t want to get any shots Mommy”.
Damn you Hooked on Phonics!!!!!! It’s going to be a long day!
