Warning: if you are not family or a very close friend this post will probably bore you to tears. Move on…quickly…while there is still time!!!
Friday afternoon the kids took their first ride on Papa’s airplane. My father in law is not a pilot, mind you. He just shares this plane with 2 other fellows and they pay people to fly it for them.
The whole purpose of taking the plane was to save time. It’s a 4 hour drive to the lake in Alabama. But due to unforseen circumstances with the rental car, finding a place to eat lunch, and then driving to the lake from the airport, it ended up being 5 hours from the time I left my house to the time we pulled into the gravel driveway in front of our cabin.
Friday was a long day. And all the kids talked about was getting in the swimming pool. So we did that right away, but all my pictures were taken on one of those underwater cameras, so they will have to wait to be seen until later.
The pool was nice. Little cold, but it had a pretty waterfall cascading into it. There was also a kiddie pool that Savannah kept calling “the cat pool”. At first I didn’t get it. Then, duh…Kiddie=Kitty=Cat. I’m still not sure if she was joking or if she kept forgetting the real name. Because she wasn’t laughing. :)
The next afternoon while Emery napped I went into a nearby town with my brother in law to see a Frank Lloyd Wright house that was built there.
If you ever get a chance to see one of his unique, one of a kind structures you should definitely take it. This is the second one I’ve seen. It was built for the Rosenbaum family of 6 back in the early 40’s. I could never go into all the details here. Just trust me when I say it’s very, very cool.
I mean, check out that bookcase. There was another one just like it outside the bedrooms. Can you imagine filling that bad boy up with books??? It’d be awesome! And all the furniture in this particular house was made “for the house” according to Wright. He tended to be a little controlling with some of his clients. This one had certain furniture in certain rooms to be placed a certain way. To change the furniture or add new furniture could not be done without confirming it with him first.
Could you imagine Jeremy telling that to one of our homeowners today??? LOL!!!
Okay, back to the reunion. I didn’t get a lot of good pictures of the family because we would gather at night and my pics came out very dark. I did get a bit of “flash envy” as I saw Bo shooting tons of great shots with his Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash. Mmmm…was it a thing of beauty! He better be sharing those pictures is all I’ve got to say! (Hint, hint, Christina!)
And speaking of Christina and the rest of you who were sitting at her poolside table discussing my blog, there seems to be a group of lurkers out there who read here but never comment. What’s up with that??? C’mon…today is the day. Stop lurking, I say! Leave a comment. What do ya have to loose?
Why do I keep getting sidetracked? Above is a picture of the kids first boat ride. Again, it’s dark because there is a storm approaching, so there was not a lot of time for pictures to be taken. Jeremy drove us around for as long as he could. I imagined there being much whining when it was time to get out, but the bright lightning and booming thunder saw to it that they were actually begging for us to hurry and dock it!
And this best describes our trip home. We were all so tired. The only thing you can’t tell from the picture is how badly we are being tossed around. There was intense cloud cover everywhere and we bumped right through it all. I know, I look pretty calm don’t I? Must be the overdose of Dramamine I took before boarding. Either that or I was just so ready to be on Georgia soil that I didn’t care if we crashed landed or not. Just get me HOME!
