Summers in Georgia don’t usually get to me. I’ve always liked hot weather. But for some reason, this year I’m not tolerating it too well. Maybe because the kids are older and they are going stir crazy inside.
This morning I switched up our day a bit. It’s too blasted hot to go outside after lunch so I thought we’d head outdoors after breakfast. Twenty minutes later they were standing in front of me with sweaty red faces, asking to come in and take a shower.
It was only 9:30!
I got to thinking, unless I want to get them up at 5 am for fresh air, I need another plan. How about a pool? They can play outside without overheating. Easy enough, right?
After showers and schoolwork, we headed to Walmart and found a little blow-up pool for only 30 bucks. Then home for lunch and doing the actual “blow up” part of the pool.
So far so good. Then, to get it up on the back deck without poking a hole in it. Surprisingly, Emery did a great job navigating it up the steps and around the corner. Savannah, on the other hand, had a bad case of the “I can’ts” and was no help at all.
This whole deal was going much more smoothly than I anticipated. It was already time to add the water. Savannah was waiting on the deck while Emery and I went down to get the hose.
So I’m unrolling the hose because I don’t know if it’s long enough to reach the top of the deck by itself. I may need to add another one to it. I get it straightened out and flip it over toward the steps. It lands in the middle of a large “knock out” rose bush and I immediately give it a good shake to get it free.
Suddenly, a swarm of wasps shot out of the middle of that bush. I’m not ashamed to tell ya, I freaked! I looked back at Emery and screamed “RUUUUNNNNNN!!!!” We ran up the deck stairs and then I remembered all those doors were locked. We had come out through the basement. I called to Savannah to get downstairs as fast as she could. We ran into the lower garage and into the house.
I could see the wasp bush out the kitchen window so I waited for them to calm down before going out again. Turns out, it took me 3 other times to go out there, try to free that hose, irritate the wasps, high tail it back into the house and wait.
All in all I can’t complain. The wasp situation was a bit scary and annoying, but after getting the water going and the pool filled up, the kids enjoyed playing so much. I even put my suit on and joined them for a little while.

That’s a great pool for only $30!! I had to wonder while watching the video, though…do they make swim trunk suspenders? LOL
We had a pool like that once, Hunter wasn’t even big enough to sit up without almost drowning!! At least for now they are enjoying it together and not fighting about whose side is whose. Remember is the car when we would fight with Cort or Jess about whose side of the seat was whose?
I love the new look!! Very nice!
