Fruit Inspection

Just a Snippit

I took the kids to get their hair cut yesterday afternoon. I tried out a new place recommended by my friend, Michele, called Snip Its. OMG, it was quite an experience!!!

First of all, Emery is very easy going when getting his hair trimmed. He’s never fussed one time. But this was the first time I had taken both kids at the same time, which meant instead of taking him in and then leaving when he’s finished, there would be some down time to keep him entertained while simultaniously coaxing Savannah through her whole dramatic haircut ordeal.

Turned out to be no problem at all…Whew! This place was packed full of toys (to purchase, of course) but they encouraged Emery to place with them. They blew bubbles for him and the owner of the place came over and did a juggling routine! (That was mainly to stop Savannah from crying, but still, Emery enjoyed every minute of it!)

Taking Savannah for a haircut is something I only do when I really, REALLY have to. Last spring I had her hair cut very short for summer. It was soooo cute! And I didn’t have it trimmed again until February of this year. I know, that sounds terrible, but ya just don’t know how awful it is to take her! She’s rude and pouty, and it’s downright embarassing! So I just don’t do it.

But her hair had gotten very long and while it looks nice pulled up in bows and ribbons, she doesn’t like for me to touch it. She never wants it washed or, god forbid, COMBED. And because she is 4 and a half, she thinks she can do everything herself, so if I come at her with a brush, she adamantly insists its already been done and I should just leave it alone.

So as we drove to Snip Its yesterday, I informed her that she was getting her hair cut shorter. (cue the crying) I went on to explain that girls who have long hair must take care of it, and until she decides it’s okay for Mommy to help her wash it and brush it, we will keep it shorter. She was still upset and through the sobbing I made out the words “tuck it”. What?

Come to find out she loves to be able to tuck her hair behind her ears. So we compromised. I told the hairdresser to cut it as short as she possibly could, leaving only enough so that Savannah could “tuck it”. We are both very happy with the cut (Daddy…not so much):
