Before I begin this post, just a quick note to all of you who left such nice, encouraging, and funny comments on Monday. I enjoyed reading all of them, knowing I am not alone in my quest to make it through yet another hell week, thanks to the finely tuned reproductive organs I possess.
So now, on to bigger and better things…
Yesterday morning Jeremy and I must have hit the snooze button on the alarm clock 4 or 5 times before just shutting the thing off all together. I’m not sure what contributed to his laziness. I am blaming hormones for mine. (I know. Such a cop out. But they are used to it.)
We were still tucked in tight when the kids came downstairs begging for breakfast. I rolled out onto the floor and shuffled my way to the kitchen. Fixed 2 quick bowls of oatmeal and headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Jeremy was on the phone in the shower. (Is my husband the only person who does that?)
A plan began forming in my head and before I mentioned it to him, I clicked on the weather channel. Yep, partly cloudy with high’s in the mid 90’s. Perfect.
I went back into the bathroom and asked Jeremy what he had going on. “Work”, is his standard reply for everyday except Sunday. “Okay, I know that. But is everything already scheduled? Is there any chance we could take the kids to the beach today?”
I knew it was a long shot, but he had just been saying that he wished we would have taken a family vacation this year. We mutually decided to skip this year’s trip to Daytona in order to save money for a big trip to Disney in the spring. About 45 minutes from our house is a beach and water park. I thought it would be a great compromise. Still technically a “beach”, close enough that he didn’t have to miss much work, and definitely within the vacation budget.
Jeremy had to tie up some loose ends at the office before we headed out and I still needed to pack up for the day. By 11:30 we were on the road. We had to make one business stop and then we stopped for lunch. By 1:30 we were in our swimsuits with our toes in the sand. It was glorious!
At least for 3 out of 4 of us. My poor husband has such a hard time relaxing. At one point I was standing in the water, both kids splashing and giggling. I looked up to where Jeremy was sitting in a beach chair. He was talking on his cell phone while simulaneoulsy typing an email into his blackberry. I sighed, silently wishing I would have thrown that god forsaken crackberry out the window as we drove down the highway.
Oh, well, that’s my hormones talking again. I am very thankful that I have a husband that works so hard for his family. Maybe one day he will be confident enough to leave work in the hands of others so he can have a “real” day off.
Lucky for us, after about 30 minutes he joined us in the splashing and giggling. The kids had a great time in the toddler pool, going down tot sized water slides. We built sandcastles and swam in the lake. I’d post pictures today but I’m having issues with the computer where I download the pictures. So they will be coming soon! Until then, take my advice: if you can squeeze in one more mini trip before school starts up again, go for it! What an awesome way to celebrate the end of summer! :)

I love day trips, they are not very stressful, and the kids are usualy wore out by the time you leave so you can chat with the hubby!
We went to the beach yesterday, too – and we had such a good time. You’re right – it was the perfect day for it!
Are we married to the same man?! My husband owns a trucking company so often on “days off” I hear the two-way squacking about this load and that truck. Often from the shower too!
Glad to hear it did turn into a nice day. :-)
